1st July

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity of a week’s work experience at QCS Staffing. Throughout the week, I will be learning about various business sectors. After being greeted by the friendly HR team, I took a tour of the office and introduced myself to everyone. Each person gave me a brief overview of their role, allowing me to meet staff from Marketing, Delivery, Accounts, Contracts & Compliance, and HR.

Following a meeting to familiarize myself with QCS Staffing's IT systems, Andrew assigned me a task. He was extremely helpful, ensuring I understood everything clearly. I learned to navigate Bullhorn and LinkedIn to track non-starters, determining if they returned to jobs arranged by QCS Staffing. I logged information such as the last contact date and current workplace on a spreadsheet.

Later, I joined six welcoming staff members for lunch, where I learned about their lives inside and outside of work. In the afternoon, I shadowed Robyn from the Contracts & Compliance team. She explained her role and the paperwork required for clients to start. I also learned about different types of companies: Umbrella, Freelance, and Limited companies.

Next, I was introduced to the Accounts team. Sante explained the roles of the Finance and Pay and Bill teams, the systems they use, and their interconnections. She also highlighted the importance of credit checks and how they are conducted. Everyone was extremely helpful, ensuring I settled in comfortably on my first day.

On my second day, I continued working on my non-starter task using Bullhorn and LinkedIn to track candidates’ employment statuses. I then shadowed Nathan, who explained Data and IT at QCS Staffing. It was fascinating, especially since I had no prior knowledge of this sector.

After meeting with Nathan, Holly from HR discussed the PowerPoint presentation I would be delivering at the end of the week. I began working on the presentation, including slides on what I had learned and my favourite parts of the week so far. I also created a LinkedIn profile, which Faye from the Marketing team would review later in the week.

On day three, I completed my non-starter task and attended team briefings in the Penthouse, which provided valuable insights into teamwork at QCS Staffing. Jay then introduced Ella and me to the Delivery team, explaining the roles of Business Winners and Delivery Executives. I found this very interesting and well-explained.

We then had a Teams call with Hannah, a remote DE, who shared why she loves her role at QCS Staffing. It was clear that the team is passionate about their work. Charlotte from Marketing and Virginie from Delivery took me out for lunch, allowing me to ask questions about their career paths and roles at QCS Staffing. This conversation was extremely insightful for my future career considerations.

After lunch, Guy explained the Life Sciences division and QCS Staffing's role in it, which was new to me. Ella and I then shadowed Charlotte in Marketing, learning how the team attracts candidates and clients. We also shadowed Holly in HR, understanding the team’s operations and responsibilities.

On day four, I had my CV reviewed by Dan via Teams. He provided valuable suggestions to improve my CV for future job searches, making sure it’s the best it can be. I then continued working on my presentation for Friday. Faye reviewed my LinkedIn page and sent a helpful checklist to enhance my profile.

The day ended early as we went to support QCS Staffing's five-a-side football teams in a charity tournament. Although QCS Staffing didn’t bring home the all-important week, it was very entertaining watching everyone play!

On my last day, I completed my remaining tasks, including finalizing my presentation. I presented it to Holly, showcasing everything I had learned and enjoyed during the week. Finally, I attended the end-of-week presentation in the Penthouse to finish off my week at QCS Staffing.

Thank you to everyone at QCS Staffing for being so welcoming and helpful, I have met some incredible people! Special thanks to Holly S, Iasmyn, and Dave for organizing this week and making it fantastic for me. QCS Staffing is a fantastic work environment with amazing teams, and I hope to return one day!
