We’re celebrating another amazing work anniversary, this time it’s Janis Boyd who has worked at QCS Staffing for 10 years. In this time, Janis has seen her role develop, and we really don’t know where we’d be without her. We spoke to Janis and some of her colleagues to learn about what she brings to the team and why she's stayed with QCS Staffing all these years.

Why did you join QCS Staffing?

I joined in 2011, and at that point, the company was just taking off again after a hard-fought recession. I snatched up a part-time business support role that QCS Staffing was offering, but before long I was a full-time member of the team, supporting the board and the business team. I came from a broadcast media background, very different to recruitment, but the buzz of the team was similar, and it was easy to transfer my skills.

What do you do at QCS Staffing?

I juggle quite a bit in my job because there are three areas. The business support side is the primary role because it needs immediate attention every day. I also enjoy managing QCS Staffing's extensive events programme, from formal company presentations to teambuilding and reward events, charity fundraisers. And, of course, our BBQs where the Board cook for everyone else! We recently held our very first virtual reward event -  we're are always enthusiastic and up for some fun.

Lastly, I look after the facilities side of the business. This means looking after our HQ and making sure everything is safe and working well. I really enjoyed implementing new procedures and processes at the beginning of the pandemic, but it has definitely been a learning curve.

“I have worked closely with Jan for the past 10 years. She truly embodies QCS values and is always willing and happy to support her colleagues, contractors and clients. Jan always puts others before herself and always goes above and beyond to ensure that the needs of those around her are met.

Jan is AMAZING at her job and has been responsible for arranging, coordinating and organising FANTASTIC company events over the past 10 years. She is the heart and soul of Business Support, as well as being one of the most loyal, dedicated and enthusiastic people I have ever had the pleasure to work with.” – Joanna Belmar, Business Services Manager

What has kept you working with the company for so many years?

Well, I like it here, and I love how varied my job is. You have to like what you do, and QCS is always evolving. It feels like a family business, but it also stays ahead of the curve. QCS has its own vibe, quite similar to the environment when I was working in media. You can work hard but still laugh, and we have especially needed that this past year.

How does QCS Staffing give back?

QCS Staffing gives back to everyone. To the community - we have four local charities which are very important to us. At the beginning of the year, they were struggling following on from the pandemic. We were unable to hold any fundraising events, but through our target programme, whereby achieved statistics are turned into points that accumulate into donations, we were able to help out at a time where they needed it most.

For our staff, we have a lot of in-house training, mentoring and reward events. The chill-out zones on the top floor - The Penthouse Playroom - gives everyone the space to play table tennis, do an exercise class, or just sit quietly and read and chat. QCS thinks about everyone, and there’s always the opportunity to suggest something new. Since the beginning of the pandemic, QCS has introduced free exercise classes and counselling.

The work-life experience has changed in the 21st century, and successful companies now recognise that they need to step up and value their staff. QCS Staffing demonstrates this by employing the whole person, encouraging people to be themselves and really make a difference.

Where have you seen the company values in action?

We have a 'one-team' culture, and it’s true that there is total support across the company. For example, when I’m working on a project, I can call in various teams, and we all work together. This, in turn, creates a first-class service for our clients. Another value that I see every day is ‘investment in our future’. If anyone at QCS is faced with something new in their role and need some mentoring or training, it’s sorted for them.

“Jan is an absolute DELIGHT to work with and is always positively contributing to our business! For 10 years now, Jan has consistently delivered her very best for QCS. She sources the best deals on entertainment, negotiating hard with our suppliers, and puts every team member’s health and wellbeing at the forefront of everything she does. She continuously considers how every decision will impact each and every colleague at QCS. I salute you Jan – thank you for being BRILLIANT!” – Spencer Trigg, Director

Would you recommend QCS as a place to work?

Yes, I would! For a young person wanting to get into recruitment, I think QCS is an ideal place to work. You are surrounded by experience and you’re given an amazing induction that is tailored to how you are, and how you learn as a person. We have wonderful trainers who base everything on the needs of the individual. Then there is the fun aspect too, we are known as the QCS Staffing family, and anyone who is ready to embrace this will be a great addition to the team.

Does QCS Staffing sound like the place for you?

If you want to be a part of the QCS family and help to unite people with life-changing industries then we want to hear from you. Are you ready to join the team?
