North Carolina might be famous for its beautiful beaches, delicious BBQ food and even the iconic Krispy Kreme doughnut. But did you know that it’s also the home of over 830 life sciences companies? Making it the perfect destination for your next pharmaceutical job.

Plenty of opportunities

And there's plenty more to come…

According to North Carolina Department of Commerce, the state has predicted they’ll add more than 389,000 jobs by 2026. With more than 36,000 of these within the Professional, Scientific and Technical services, a growth rate of over 15%.

Currently there are over 61,000 employees working in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry in North Carolina. East of the state capital, Raleigh, is where you’ll find a whole host of BioPharma companies.

There's also Research Triangle Park where over 375 companies, including specialists in pharmaceutical and biotechnology, work together in North America’s largest research park. The park is located between top research universities and they encourage collaboration between them and the industries and businesses. Currently the park boasts an impressive 60,000 employees.

North Carolina is a great home for these businesses, it has the lowest corporate income tax in the US and has been voted Forbes’ Best State for Business, but it’s not just a great place for businesses it’s a great place to live too…

North Carolina

Amazing scenery and so much to do

Nestled between mountain ranges and the Atlantic Ocean, the residents of North Carolina aren’t short of beautiful views or outdoor activities. The Outer Banks islands are a hotspot for surfers or for those that want to explore the 100+ miles of shoreline. But if the open ocean isn’t your thing the mountain ranges of North Carolina might appeal to you more; Blue Ridge, Great Smoky and Black mountains are just a few of the ranges you can enjoy. These mountain ranges offer miles of hiking trails, breath-taking scenery and an array of wildlife, including black bears, bobcats and armadillos.

Work/life balance

With so much to see and do it’s not a surprise that North Carolinians have a great work/life balance. In fact this year, the city of Durham ranked number 9 on a list of US cities with the best work/life balance. The city scored great, especially on its average commute time of less than 25 minutes.

Cost of living

The cost of living is low compared to the industry’s other hubs across the US, such as San Francisco and Boston, and scores below the national average on groceries, housing and transportation.
