Paris is the City of Love and Lights, but it also offers an active job market and is a global, cultural and historical centre that draws in around 50 million visitors each year. Paris holds some beautiful and iconic landmarks and attractions along with a renowned culinary scene, what more do you need?

A Glimpse into Parisian Life

There is no shortage of things to do in Paris, in fact you will be spoilt for choice with many iconic locations. Any trip to France will undoubtedly come with a long list of monuments like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Arc de Triumph, and Notre Dame Cathedral. But Paris is also full of charming, picturesque neighbourhoods like Le Maris, Montmartre, and the Latin Quarter all teeming with cafes and restaurants. And if you’re after an activity, there are many lovely walks through Jardin Tuileries or along the Seine to enjoy the stalls, or you could watch a traditional cabaret at Moulin Rouge, and let’s not forget shopping at the Champs Elysees. If you want a free view of the city, you can visit the Galary Lafayette or if you want to explore underneath the city, you can visit the eerie Paris Catacombs said to have been there since the Roman periods.

Navigating the Parisian Lifestyle

Paris can be expensive, here is a list of the average costs:

In terms of transport, Paris has an efficient public transportation system, including the Metro, RER, and bus network. Walking and cycling are also popular ways to get around. Take a taxi at your own risk – taxi drivers in Paris are known for being risky drivers.

And while many Parisians speak English, learning some basic French can significantly enhance your experience - even if they respond in English. Many, despite the most common stereotypes, do not consider it rude to talk in English. However, very basic etiquette in France dictates you must say ‘bonjour’ whenever you encounter another person (including shop assistants or when entering a room or elevator) or the equivalent upon leaving ‘bonne journée’. Failing to do so is considered a show of lack of respect. The Parisians have a culture of extreme politeness, commitment, and formality despite being very relaxed on punctuality.

The Parisian Job Market

Paris is a major economic hub, having the third largest economy in Europe, with a very diversified economic sector and expats will find jobs in industries such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, telecommunications, aerospace and automotive industries, as well as fashion retail and luxury goods, among many others. The job market can be competitive, especially for non-EU citizens. However, with the right qualifications and experience, finding a job in Paris is possible.. Salaries in Paris can be competitive, particularly in sectors like finance and technology, and pharmaceuticals. The average annual salary in Paris is around 55,000 EUR (59,400 USD), with 3,135 EUR (2,380 USD) being the monthly income after taxes.

France, the third-largest country in Europe, with a population of  67 million. Its workforce benefits from one of the highest minimum wages in Europe, 25 annual leave days, often subsidised or covered commutes, and a relatively early retirement age of 62.
